Today, as we consider Thoreau's ideas in this chapter, we're invited to respond to them: certainly, to "[hear] the beat of a different drummer" is an invitation to respectfully contradict Thoreau or passionately agree.

So, to begin, grab a quotation (or pair of quotations that speak to a similar point) from this chapter and explain your respectful disagreement or passionate concurrence. Then, respond to at least two classmates' posts, again, thoroughly (or Thoreau-ly ;-)) explaining your agreement or disagreement. When it comes time to making your second response, please prefer those posts on the thread that have not yet been responded to.

Primary Post = 10 points
  • Correctly formatted quotation (3 points)
  • Paraphrasing/Explanation of Quotation (3 points)
  • Explanation of Agreement/Disagreement (3 points)
  • Mechanical Correctness (1 point)
Responses = 5 points each
  • Clear Statement of Agreement/Disagreement (1 point)
  • Explanation of Reasons for Agreement/Disagreement  (3 points)
  • Mechanical Correctness (1 point)
